Digital fluency Intensive, Cohort 1, 2021

 Day 3, Media

Today we learnt about 'Create' (Hanga) which is the centre of the Manaikalani Pedagogy and how it can hook students into their learning by bringing enthusiasm. Creative skills can help our students become problem solver, communicators and collaborators. So it's really important to give our tamariki the opportunities to create and harness the power of technology to capture what they are doing and share it globally.

New learnings and takeaways from today's session:

YOU TUBE-- I learnt how to create my own youtube channel and playlists.  I created my playlist on the maths basic facts which will be very helpful for my students.

MULTI MEDIA- Learnt how important it is to make our learners not just the consumers but also the creates of multimedia. Will be using Sisomo in my google slides to make it more interesting and engaging.

GOOGLE DRAWING- Another great tool. Learnt about masking, tile remove, inserting a shape. Used this today to create  'about me' for my blog profile.

GOOGLE SLIDES- Created a drag and drop activity on the google slides.

Digital Intensive Fluency, Cohort 1 2021

 Day 2

Another day of taking away so many new tips and new learnings and building on my kete of knowledge. Today I felt a lot confident and faster in using some of my digital skills that I learnt from last session like sharing my screen, switching from one meeting to another promptly, muting, unmuting and blogging

Some of the key learnings from the Manaikalani kaupapa and pedagogy

Today, Dorothy Burt talked about 'AKO' and shared how digital technology in hands of effective teachers can create new experiences and new opportunities for the learners. The learn, create, share framework from the Manaikalani pedagogy can help in accelerating students learning. The effective teachers use the digital technology to amplify their teaching practise. Turbocharging students learning through rewindable learning can help the students to go back and revisit the learning at their own pace.

Learners

It was so inspiring to read some of the students blogs from different schools and the comments on their blogs. This is something I am motivated to teach to my students soon i.e blogging and use the learn, create, share framework.

Professional & Personal

Learnt some new features on Google meet, Google calender, Google keep. I am feeling confident in scheduling a google meet using the Google calender and sending the invitation. I am going to be more organised and will be using the labeling and colour coding to differentiate my professional and personal calenders. Google keep is something I am going to explore more and will be using in replace of notes as there are more features on  Google keep. I also consider myself as 'tab collectors' as I have so may tabs opened at a time, so I will be looking and finding more about the google extensions 'One Tab' and 'Tobi Mini' to organise my tabs.

I also learnt how to embed the video into the blog but unfortunately I am not embedding the video with this blog as my screen didn't let me to record. But I enjoyed being part of my buddy's blog discussion video.

Digital Intensive Fluency, Cohort 1 2021

 DFI, Day 1

Today was our first online session for the Digital Fluency Intensive. I am taking away lots of new learning. It was nice connecting with facilitators and educators from various parts of Aotearoa.

It was inspiring to know the journey of Manaikalani and how it always keeps students at the forefront with the aim that no student should be deprived of having digital learning experiences.

In today's session, I have gained lots of new knowledge around using google drive, google docs, google groups, chrome extensions. I am going to use the google docs more often for creating notices, posters and other class resources. I am also going to organise and sort my documents in Google drive using different tools.

In class, voice typing is something I am going to use with my students during reading time. Also scavenger hunt and modifying it to suit my year 3-4 students.

I am feeling confident in sharing the new learning from today's session with other teachers from my team and across the school.
